This article discusses the formation of storytellers’ repertoire in the late twentieth and early twenty-first centuries. Fairy tales are a genre that actively borrows plots and characters from various sources, primarily literary ones. One such source is A. N. Afanas’ev’s well known collection “Russian Folk Tales.” Researchers can assess the proximity of a particular storyteller’s version to the text in this classic collection, as certain details indicate the storyteller’s familiarity with it. The influence of texts from Afanas’ev’s collection on the oral fairy tale tradition is examined using the example of the fairy tales told by the Permian storyteller N. A. Chechikhina. Analysis reveals that the storyteller does not simply retell the text she has read, but creates her own version, adapting it to her own performance style and drawing greater attention to the characters’ psychology and adding to the detailed descriptions of the landscape, thereby creating a specific dramatic structure
