The work was carried out within the framework of the planned scholarly research topic “The Poetics of Folklore of the Peoples of the European North of Russia in Synchrony and Diachrony” (reg. No. 121051400044-2) of the folklore sector of the Institute of Language, Literature and History of the Komi Scientific Center of the Ural Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences.
This article examines the concepts of “path,” “road” and “movement” in folksongs, revolutionary songs by identifiable authors and in and mass youth songs of the Soviet era. These concepts appear in various folklore and artistic texts and are important for revealing the national worldview. It has been established that there is no fast movement in folksongs, although songs of the early twentieth century associated with hope for a free, fair life, often manifest the motif of “moving forward.” After the 1917 revolution, it became important to educate the younger generation in a revolutionary spirit, and music and song became an important form of propaganda. In songs that were composed, the concept of “path” or “road” began to be supplemented by lexical and semantic fields associated with the destruction of the old, the desire for the new, and the concept of “movement” linked to the semantic fields “forward” or “movement together.” Since the 1930s, new motifs appear in songs, reflecting social changes; this is also reflected in the use of the concepts of “path” or “road” and “movement.”
