This article discusses the first two collections of Abkhazian folk tales: the ten-page “Abkhazian Fairy Tales” (1909), compiled by I. I. Gulia; and “Abkhazian Fairy Tales” under the general editorship of A. K. Khashba and V. I. Kukba, which was published in a large edition in 1935 in Russian, and in 1936 — in the original Abkhaz language. The 1909 collection includes three texts in the Abkhaz language, with Russian translation. Abkhazian folk tales have been published in various collections, newspapers and other publications over the years, but there was no separate collection of them before the publication of these two collections.
